Ludisia discolor, the black jewel orchid, is an orchid species native to Malaysia, Indonesia and Burma. It is a terrestrial orchid, which means it grows in soil and soil-like medium on the ground.
We bought this plant at an orchid show in Fairchild Gardens in Miami almost 15 years ago, and there were several years without any flowers.
In the last two or three years we've resisted repotting it since it's been producing so many flowers.
Each of the stalks has multiple blooms which look like individual tiny orchids.
