Project Iron Quilter
A Project Iron Quilter contest was held again this year at GVQC's quilt show.
Like Project Runway, our contestants have a short time to "shop" for the fabric they'll use, but instead of from a store, they pick through fabrics donated by Club members.
To go with the show's theme of Magical Threads, the contestants were challenged to make a quilt with the theme "A Disappearing Act."
The total time for the contest is 3 1/2 hours, and the contestants must complete a quilt at least 18" by 18". The piece must be quilted and have a binding or finished edges.
Jeanne Simpson was our MC and did a great job encouraging the contestants and keeping the spectators informed.
All the contestants finished their quilts within the allotted time, and there were many diverse and wonderful interpretations of the theme.
Our judge, Carol Soderlund, selected the top three quilts. Third prize went to Joyce Martelli, Second to Kathy Everett, and First to Ann Hawkins. Congratulations go to all the contestants for an excellent job done!
