Screen Printing 2

Some more of Kerr's samples.

Kerr demonstrating screen preparation.

Some of the students and staff were dressed for Halloween.

One of our assignments was to do a screen print of one of our classmates.  This one that Jeanne modeled for was particularly successful.

And here is Jeanne hard at work on some of her prints.

Screen Printing

Jeanne, Bev, and I are taking the Deconstructed Screen Printing class with Kerr Grabowski at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn.

Kerr demonstrates how to pin down fabric to be printed.

Our instructor ended up with red dye in her hair and needed a little help getting it out.

Some of Kerr's samples.

Priscilla's visit

Priscilla was in our area to vend at a local quilt show and spent a couple of evenings with us.

It gave us a chance to "get caught up" and to work on a couple of projects.

Not to be left out, Suki made sure she was nearby in case any one wanted her to pose for pictures or be available for snuggles.

This jacket has been "in process" for a long time, which means it has been languishing in the closet..... But with some suggestions from Priscilla and some of her special embellishments, a plan for finishing it is now in place!

Studio Tour

Members of the Wayne County Council for the Arts visited us for a tour of the studio.

After seeing the main studio area, some of the visitors moved to where the longarm sewing machine is used.

Some of the artists took the Innova for a practice "spin" and drew some wonderful designs -- including flowers and a horse!

Still harvesting

We haven't had a hard frost yet and the raspberries are still producing.    It's unusual to find this many berries this late in the season.

We've cleared the rest of vegetable garden, and Bill mowed down any remaining plants and weeds.

The red canna lilies are still blooming, so we'll leave them for a little while longer.

The big bucket on the tractor comes in handy as usual, as Bill moves away some of the excess dirt left from excavating around the barn.

Visitors from Portland

Bill's nephew, David, and his partner, Kristina, visited us recently.

David works as the Manager of the Columbia River Watershed and its 30+ dams, most of which produce power.  Kristina is an urban planner who is currently drawing up plans for a wind farm project.

We went to Eastview Mall to eat and walked off dinner after a meal at the Bonefish Grill.

David grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and therefore, was familiar with Von Maur, which is based in his home state.

We liked this stuffed lamb in Von Maur, complete with hat and scarf.

David is the son of Bill's twin, Margaret, now deceased.  He remembers visiting us on the farm as a young boy and riding in the bucket of the 1968 Ford tractor.  We still use the same old piece of equipment in our daily activities!

Millie's pergola

We continue to watch with interest our feral cat, Millie, and her contacts with humans.

(Can you see her sitting in the middle of the clematis on the roof?)

When any of us are working in the gardens, she tends to "hang" near, often elevating her perch to watch us and any impending trouble.

Here she is on the move across the roof of the garden pergola, some eight feet above the ground.

We are impressed by the fact that she is always "on guard" and stands ready to move quickly.

Her sharp claws enable her to ascend and descend with some fancy footwork.  She will scamper away upon reaching the ground.

We wonder if she will ever trust human contact.  Never the less, we enjoy her presence and are pleased to care for her.

Meeting day

The Peeps held their regular meeting, where new work was looked at and critiqued.

Linda shared some works she created by painting on canvas and using the fabric in pieced compositions.

She's also been working on portraits of her grandchildren.

Mary showed us this large bed quilt made from scrap blocks that she made and exchanged.

LaConner news

My "Doormats" quilt won an Honorable Mention at the 2014 Quilt & Fiber Arts Festival at the LaConner Quilt & Textile Museum!

And this is the lovely medallion that they sent.

Kitty update

Our feral cat, Millie, comes up on the deck for meals -- usually breakfast and dinner.  She sometimes even looks in the house door -- but still no touching allowed!

Our neighbor cat, Mr. Boots, stops by for a little snack of dry cat food.  He is a quiet, calm fellow,  and doesn't confront any other felines.

Still no frost, as you tell by the flowers in bloom.

Millie has usurped the horse barn as her space, and she has many resting spots.  Here she curls up on straw next to some wood and pallets.

Reunion

Our high school alumni had their annual reunion luncheon at Blue Herron Hills, which was hosted this year by the Class of 64.

There was a good turnout, and we even had a representative from the Class of 39.

Some of my classmates:  Joan, Sue, Janet, Rick and Jackie.

We made a stop on the way home at Longacre Farms to see the pumpkins, and of course, to buy a little fudge!

Sewing day

Nancy showed us the bag she made from canvas that she painted and embellished.  The colors are great and coordinate with my cutting mat!

Nancy is working on a composition using her Japanese fabrics.

Linda has the start of a new composition on her wall.

In the foreground is one of the star blocks that Jeanne is putting into a new quilt that she's making for a gift.

This is the tote bag that Jeanne made as a sample for a project at her upcoming retreat at Stella Maris.

Camera test

My new iphone arrived today -- Yay!

Lots to learn, but I thought I would check out the camera -- and I think its photos are great.

Now, if I can just find jeans that have large-enough pockets!
